Rola Fuels Start Foundation's Quest to Raise For Rah

Rola, Australia’s original roof rack company, is helping raise funds and awareness for the Royal Adelaide Hospital by sponsoring a START foundation initiative – a 3,554 kilometre ride from Perth to Melbourne.

The ride is a five week adventure where friends of the START Foundation will ride from Perth to Melbourne, raising money along the way to donate to the Royal Adelaide Hospital’s Intensive Care Research Unit. The initiative is headed by Kerryn Harvey, a passionate fitness fanatic that owes her life to the intensive care unit after they treated her for a flesh eating bacteria she contracted after a cycling accident.

As a result of the incredibly rare infection she likely picked up at the road side of her accident, Kerryn’s right arm had to be amputated. After many months of recovery that also included multiple organ failures due to her weak immune system, Kerryn survived. The reason she survived, doctors say, is because she was very fit.

Since making her recovery Kerryn has been determined to give something back to those who helped save her life. Together with her family and friends they hatched a plan to ride from Perth to Melbourne to raise money for the Royal Adelaide Hospital Critical Care Research Fund. They also aim to provide funding, equipment and resources to assist people with a disability to achieve their sporting dreams.

As well as funding the fuel costs for all support vehicles, Rola has fully fitted out each vehicle with bike carriers and cargo carrying accessories to help the team during the 35 day adventure.
